Marijuana Ballot Initiatives Get Out the Vote! Voters Want Medical Marijuana overwhelmingly across the country!

Medical Marijuana and Crohn's Disease...Please watch the video. It will change your mind on medical cannabis!
Medical Marijuana treats Crohn’s Disease, Diabetes, MS, Glaucoma, Cancer and so much more. Sign the petition below and vote yes to freedom!

The latest round of Battleground polls by George Washington Rick ScottUniversity found respondents (nationally) would be 40% “much more likely” to visit the voting booth if marijuana’s legalization status was on the ballot. Thirty percent of respondents would be “somewhat” more likely as well. This brings the numbers up to a total of about 70% of voters who would be more likely to vote this fall if marijuana was in question.

Considering midterm elections have historically had low voter turnout, politicians are keeping a watchful eye on those states that have marijuana policy initiatives in the upcoming election. The results are promising for Democrats, because they tend to have a rougher time than Republicans in getting voters out in non-presidential election years.

The study goes on to show that 76 percent of liberals said they would be more likely to vote if marijuana was on the ballot, compared to a 64 percent for conservatives and 61 percent for moderates.

For instance, in Florida, Republican Governor Rick Scott’s reelection campaign says the “spillover effect” from high voter turnout because of the medical marijuana ballot question threatens to weigh the scales against him. In fact, the state’s Republicans feel so threatened that they have filed a legal challenge to keep the referendum off the ballot.

“It’s an issue that the Democrats can use to pump up the youth vote,” said Alex Patton, a Republican political consultant and pollster based in Gainesville, Florida. “The politics of it are dangerous for the GOP.”

Conservatives Join the Fight for Cannabis Business Rights in America!

Conservative Fights For Marijuana Business Rights

Marijuana has always been big business, and with legalization taking effect across America, it’s hard to deny the potential for a financial boom in the economy. This new reality has conservatives like Michael Correia jumping in, ready to be the face and driving force behind equality for the emerging marijuana business sector.

Lobbyist for Cannabis Business

Although, Correia spent the last couple of years as a GOP staffer and lobbyist for the American Legislative Exchange Council, working on issues such as gun restriction, he is now refocusing his agenda as an advocate for the National Cannabis Industry Association—a national trade association that seeks equal treatment for marijuana business under federal law.

 Marijuana Commerce

You are not likely to find Correia smoking marijuana, himself, but he does have this to say about representing marijuana commerce: “These are legitimate businesses, producing revenue, creating jobs. I want to be the face of it. I want to be what congress sees.”

He’s eager to do his part to assure that the economic potential of the industry does not continue to be oppressed by unfair federal regulation on tax, charitable donations, and revenue processing.

Correia’s Motivation

Correia believes that this issue is the perfect way to fight for the principles he’s always stood for—limited government, equality, and freedom; and he’s not alone. His support of the cause has lead to collaboration from Grover Norquist (anti-tax activist and founder of Americans for Tax Reform). Together they’re lobbing for the right of marijuana businesses to deduct expenses from their taxes.

A New Approach

Instead of focusing on the war on drugs in general (a trend Correia has noticed among traditional supporters), he believes that focus on the concrete legal issues and federal equality violations will make the difference in acquiring support for the movement, and ultimately creating change.

Gupta: ‘I am doubling down’ on medical marijuana

Dr. Sanjay Gupta explores politics of pot

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • A growing number of patients want cannabis as a medicine
  • “It is irresponsible to not provide the best care we can,” Sanjay Gupta says
  • Those with influence are paying attention to the debate
  • The public has become intensely engaged

(CNN) – It’s been eight months since I last wrote about medical marijuana, apologizing for having not dug deeply into the beneficial effects of this plant and for writing articles dismissing its potential. I apologized for my own role in previously misleading people, and I feel very badly that people have suffered for too long, unable to obtain the legitimate medicine that may have helped them.

I have been reminded that a true and productive scientific journey involves a willingness to let go of established notions and get at the truth, even if it is uncomfortable and even it means having to say “sorry.”

It is not easy to apologize and take your lumps, but this was never about me.

This scientific journey is about a growing number of patients who want the cannabis plant as a genuine medicine, not to get high.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta is a practicing neurosurgeon and CNN\'s chief medical correspondent.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta is a practicing neurosurgeon and CNN’s chief medical correspondent.

It is about emerging science that not only shows and proves what marijuana can do for the body but provides better insights into the mechanisms of marijuana in the brain, helping us better understand a plant whose benefits have been documented for thousands of years. This journey is also about a Draconian system where politics override science and patients are caught in the middle.

Since our documentary “Weed” aired in August, I have continued to travel the world, investigating and asking tough questions about marijuana.

I have met with hundreds of patients, dozens of scientists and the curious majority who simply want a deeper understanding of this ancient plant. I have sat in labs and personally analyzed the molecules in marijuana that have such potential but are also a source of intense controversy. I have seen those molecules turned into medicine that has quelled epilepsy in a child and pain in a grown adult. I’ve seen it help a woman at the peak of her life to overcome the ravages of multiple sclerosis.

Georgia House approves medical marijuana

Fla. to vote on medical marijuana

Can medical marijuana help seizures?

I am more convinced than ever that it is irresponsible to not provide the best care we can, care that often may involve marijuana.

I am not backing down on medical marijuana; I am doubling down.

I should add that, although I’ve taken some heat for my reporting on marijuana, it hasn’t been as lonely a position as I expected. Legislators from several states have reached out to me, eager to inform their own positions and asking to show the documentary to their fellow lawmakers.

I’ve avoided any lobbying, but of course it is gratifying to know that people with influence are paying attention to the film. One place where lawmakers saw a long clip was Georgia, where the state House just passed a medical marijuana bill by a vote of 171-4. Before the legislative session started, most people didn’t think this bill had a chance.

More remarkable, many doctors and scientists, worried about being ostracized for even discussing the potential of marijuana, called me confidentially to share their own stories of the drug and the benefit it has provided to their patients. I will honor my promise not to name them, but I hope this next documentary will enable a more open discussion and advance science in the process.

Marijuana is classified as a Schedule I substance, defined as “the most dangerous” drugs “with no currently accepted medical use.”

Neither of those statements has ever been factual. Even many of the most ardent critics of medical marijuana don’t agree with the Schedule I classification, knowing how it’s impeded the ability to conduct needed research on the plant.

Even the head of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Dr. Nora Volkow, seems to have softened her stance; she told me she believes we need to loosen restrictions for researchers.

Along the way, the public has become intensely engaged. Our collective society has paid closer attention to this issue than ever before, and with that increased education, support for medical marijuana has only grown, including in some unexpected places.

Pete Carroll, the coach of the Super Bowl-winning Seattle Seahawks, said the National Football League should explore medical marijuana if it helps players. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell hasn’t dismissed the idea, saying that if marijuana is reconsidered by the medical establishment, the league would treat it the same as any other medicine. Goodell also says the NFL is following the science that suggests marijuana may help recovery from concussions.

Recently, I had the chance to tell him that the United States already holds a patent on medical marijuana for that very purpose. Patent No. 6630507: Cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke or trauma.

However, this particular issue still bothers me: How can the government deny the benefits of medical marijuana even as it holds a patent for those very same benefits? Members of the Food and Drug Administration declined my repeated requests for an interview.

This past year, President Barack Obama told the New Yorker magazine, “I don’t think (marijuana) is more dangerous than alcohol.” And yet, as alcohol remains available to any adult, the president has not moved to remove marijuana from the list of the most tightly controlled substances in the country.

Since I started my reporting on this topic, I have mostly resisted temptation to inject a subjective moral equivalency into this discussion, such as pitting alcohol against marijuana or reminding you that cocaine and methamphetamine are actually more available than marijuana to patients, physicians and medical researchers: They are Schedule II drugs, with recognized medical uses. Or telling you that on average, a person dies every 19 minutes in this country from a legal prescription drug overdose, while it is virtually unheard-of to die from a marijuana overdose.

But, with a discussion like this, consistency does matter. Terms matter, too.

We are talking about a medicine, known scientifically as cannabis. In order for people to start thinking of this substance as a medicine, perhaps we should start calling it by its medical name, something that was suggested to me by medical marijuana advocates pretty much everywhere I went this year.

I’ve tried to pull together these latest developments in our new documentary, “Cannabis Madness.” Although the 1936 film “Reefer Madness” was propaganda made to advance an agenda with dramatic falsehoods and hyperbole, I hope you will find “Cannabis Madness” an accurate reflection of what is happening today, injected with the best current science.

You will meet families all across the country — a stay-at-home mom from Ohio, a nurse practitioner from Florida, an insurance salesman from Alabama — more than 100 families who have all left jobs, homes, friends and family behind and moved to Colorado to get the medicine that relieves their suffering.

As things stand now, many of these good people don’t ever get to return home. Why? Because transporting their medicine, even if it is a non-psychoactive cannabis oil, could get them arrested for drug trafficking. And so they are stuck, cannabis refugees.

You will meet them, and if you’re like me, you’ll be heartbroken to hear their stories, but you’ll also have a lump in your throat when you see the raw, true love these parents have for their sick children.

History books may one day draw a parallel between this chapter of medical marijuana and the story of David and Goliath. Playing the role of David’s slingshot, which ultimately brought Goliath to his knees, would be a 2-year-old girl named Vivian Wilson. She inspired her father to challenge the system in a spectacular way that caused a nation to stop for a moment and take note.

For months, we have filmed and followed the Wilson family with all of their trials and tribulations, and you will meet the whole family in the upcoming documentary.

I am a father myself, first and foremost. I don’t want my children taking or being offered a psychoactive substance. As a neurosurgeon, I know that the developing brain is more susceptible to the most harmful effects of cannabis and that brain development continues well into our mid-20s.

I also worry that generations from now, my great-grandkids will find Internet headlines referring to me as the “pot doc.” I do hope they will also read the rest of the story and understand the lives of the countless people who have suffered needlessly when a plant could have helped. I hope they know that I have dedicated my time to researching the medical literature, speaking to the scientists in person and piecing together a fact-based presentation meant to educate, not frighten.

I hope future generations won’t consider me naive. Yes, I know there is a concern that many people out there will feign ailments just to get marijuana. But withholding legitimate treatment for the needy is a very unjust way of addressing that concern.

As a physician and reporter, I feel a deeper obligation to present the real stories, soundly supported with the science from all over the world.

When I first apologized for my previous marijuana reporting, I was thinking about the impact that reporting may have had on Charlotte Figi. She is a sweet little girl whose brain was locked in nearly nonstop seizure activity. Without success, she tried seven different medications, stringent diets and high-dose supplements. Modern medicine had nothing more to offer, which is why her parents turned to an ancient plant. As you know, it worked.

And, as you will see, she is one of so many patients out there, suffering from different ailments, who believe cannabis rescued them when nothing else did.

For conditions like Charlotte’s, the American Epilepsy Society says that there are a million people for whom existing therapies do not control their seizures. The society recently said anecdotes about medical marijuana “give reason for hope” and said it supports “well-controlled studies that will lead to a better understanding of the disease and the development of safe and effective treatments.”

You should know that Charlotte continues to do well. When I saw her around the holidays, she ran over and gave me a hug. She looked me in the eyes, took me by the hand and led me all around to meet her friends. She is a delightful, happy and now healthy little girl.

I know the discussion around this topic will no doubt get heated. I have felt that heat. But I feel a greater responsibility than ever to make sure those heated discussions are also well-informed by science.

And, with that: I hope you get a chance to watch on March 11 at 10 p.m. Eastern.

One Gram of Cannabis a Day Keeps Her Leukemia Away.

Dr. William Courtney Calls Child “A Miracle Baby”

Dr. William Courtney Calls Child “A Miracle Baby”

Picture

Dr. William Courtney
Medical marijuana is gaining acceptance, but could it even help kids? Dr. William Courtney has seen it happen, and on Friday, told HuffPost Live host Alyona Minkovski about it. Saying he was “quite a skeptic 5 or 6 years ago”, Dr. Courtney continued that “my youngest patient is 8 months old, and had a very massive centrally

located inoperable brain tumor.” The child’s father pushed for non-traditional treatment utilizing cannabis.  “They were putting cannabinoid oil on the baby’s pacifier twice a day, increasing the dose… And within two months there was a dramatic reduction, enough that the pediatric oncologist allowed them to go ahead with not pursuing traditional therapy.”The tumor was remarkably reduced after eight months of treatment. Dr. Courtney pointed out that the success of the cannabis approach means that “this child, because of that, is not going to have the long-term side effects that would come from a very high dose of chemotherapy or radiation… currently the child’s being called a miracle baby, and I would have to agree that this is the perfect response that we should be insisting is front line therapy for all children before they launch off on all medications that have horrific long term side effects.”

Marijuana Put My Crohn’s Disease Into Remission and It’s Not A Joke! A story of truth and inspiration!

Marijuana Put My Crohn’s Disease Into Remission and It’s Not A Joke

Marijuana Put My Crohn’s Disease Into Remission and It’s Not A Joke

Marijuana Put My Crohn’s Disease Into Remission and It’s Not A Joke

I usually do not want to talk about having Crohn’s Disease. It is just a reality I have lived with for nine years, but never exactly dinner table discussion or an amusing anecdote shared with friends over drinks. It has been not just a major inconvenience in my life; it has altered its course significantly. The subject is emotionally difficult to explain. It’s personal. For lack of a better word, unpleasant.

I feel compelled to share now, although I don’t really want to, because a new study has proven smoked marijuana has a near 100% success rate in putting Crohn’s Disease into remission. I am sick of everyone making jokes about my involvement in the marijuana legalization movement; I’m sick of having to stay quiet about what I do around family or in public for fear or upsetting someone’s delicate sensibilities about “drugs” like marijuana. Let me tell you a thing or two about drugs, marijuana and Crohn’s Disease. It’s not a joke and it is not about “getting high” for me.

It is difficult to explain to people what Crohn’s is, because it involves the digestive system and people like to just think it is IBS. It is not IBS. It’s especially hard to explain because the causes are unknown; it is a chronic illness that was only given a name in 1932.

Genetic factors can signal its onset, but I had no such forewarning. My mom was adopted in the 1960s, when laws pertaining to adoption allowed all records, including medical, to remain locked—even fifty years after the laws have changed. Some digging produced some vague birth records showing a great-grandmother and some other distant biological relatives who died of their intestines exploding inside of them. My doctors urged me to find family members who had the illness so they could try to find patterns. We found my biological grandmother in Pennsylvania, but she wanted nothing to do with either me or my family and refused to provide any medical records.

I began fasting in middle school, but I didn’t start seriously starving myself to the point of illness until my sophomore year of high school. Not the point of this article, so I am not going in depth. Some people believe malnutrition can be a trigger for those who carry the gene. I think so, too. By my senior year I was in such terrible pain I would double over crying at night, unable to sleep. A nutritionist my doctor sent me to said it was my vegetarian diet and I needed more protein. I started puking everything I ate. The starving became involuntary.

The day I graduated high school all the other kids were lined up ready to process into the auditorium and talking about their college plans, I was sitting against a wall trying to regain my composure to get up and walk across the stage with everyone else, biting on my own hand to get through the pain so hard I broke skin. That summer before college was pretty miserable. I was in and out of doctors’ offices while trying to make plans to move over 300 miles away for college.

I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease three days before I moved into the dorms at San Francisco State. I spent much of my first semester in my dorm bed under mounds of blankets with the heat blasting because I couldn’t eat food and I just never could get warm. As it turned out, I had a blockage in my large intestine that had caused inflammation, which in turn shut my whole body down.

I was desperately trying to maintain a normal social life just after moving to a brand new place and without friends. That November before going to a dinner party a co-worker was throwing, I decided to shower and get ready in our shared hall bathrooms. I got in the shower and shivered so hard I couldn’t stop shaking. I kept turning the knob higher and higher until my skin was lobster red and near blistering. Though I had begun to burn my skin, I couldn’t feel it. I reluctantly got out of the shower and moved into a stall to put my clothes on. As I zipped up the back of my dress I started to get dizzy. I clutched a wall for a moment, telling myself to keep it together, before I collapsed on the concrete floor.

A couple of minutes later a girl from down the hall found me on the floor, lifted me up and walked me back to my room. The first thing I said was “don’t tell my mom, I have a party to go to tonight…” before passing out in the bed again. Thankfully, she and my roommate ignored my suggestion and found my mom’s number in my cell. She told them to take me to the hospital immediately.

When I got there, the doctor was ready to do emergency surgery to remove the blockage.  I stubbornly pleaded with the doctors to find another way – after all, I had this crazy idea I was going to complete my Bachelor’s Degree in only three years and it was late in the semester to be dropping my classes for a surgery. The surgeons kept a tube snaked through my nose and esophagus to my stomach for two days while it drained the bile built up behind the blockage to the point of turning toxic. The buildup had triggered anemia, which in turn caused the coldness and fainting.

Luckily, the doctor who treated me knew a specialist and major researcher in the field at UCSF, a world-renowned medical research school.

The specialist removed the tube, allowing me to speak aloud for the first time in days (until then I had been communicating via slips of paper I handed my mom, littered with obscenities directed towards the nurses and other doctors). We agreed to do the surgery over spring break in March as long as I promised to take the prescribed medications and my condition didn’t worsen.

I started taking a lot of pills. I was always the youngest person by at least 40 years in my local pharmacy. One of the pills, Asacol, I seemed to be taking all day with no perceived benefit. The one that stood out the worst for me though—Prednisone. Prednisone is a steroid used to reduce inflammation and is typically prescribed to people suffering with arthritis. It caused me to gain 10 pounds of water weight almost immediately. When I stood up to walk to class I would have sloshly ankles within minutes, so I started taking a shuttle to the other end of campus when I became unable to make the walk. My otherwise clear skin broke out in a bad way. I had mood swings; any little thing would set me off crying or picking fights. I remember one particularly depressing Friday night when the dorms were abuzz with partiers and I was watching Oprah with my feet propped up and crying into a carton of strawberry ice cream like a pregnant woman.

I made it to March, miserably, and then I went in for surgery. Because I was only 18-years-old they wanted to do what they could to not to scar up my body too much, so they did the surgery laparoscopically (with lasers) and pulled the damaged part of my intestine out through my belly button and glued it back together. While this procedure avoided any major scarring, to this day my skin’s misalignment becomes apparent when I gain and lose weight, which I do constantly because… I have Crohn’s Disease.

I came out of the surgery a little angry. A nurse commented to me that the surgery was more painful than childbirth so it should be a breeze when I start popping them out. Why the hell would an 18-year-old who just had their body torn open even give a fuck about childbirth?! I think it was her way of telling me it was okay that I was constantly tapping at the morphine drip button they put in my hand. I was using it to put myself to sleep. I was even angrier when they started telling me about all the meds they wanted to give me and when they told me that I had an 80% chance of having to do this again in two years, and AGAIN two years after that until I would eventually have to carry a bag because I didn’t have enough intestine left. Fucking gross, I wasn’t going to accept it. The doctors painted a very bleak and expensive picture of my future, right when it was just getting started.

“The doctors painted a very bleak and expensive picture of my future, right when it was just getting started.”

I had smoked marijuana regularly in high school, Proposition 215 had already passed but there were no medical marijuana clubs in my conservative, rural, part of California. We still had to buy our marijuana from shady street dealers. I felt so cool and so terrified at the same time going to buy marijuana with a friend the very first time. I think the guy we bought it from was part of a local gang.

Moving to San Francisco and seeing the dispensary and medical card ads in the back of the free weeklies was a revelation. I was nervous about getting a medical marijuana recommendation because of the rumors I heard about government watch lists. But I knew I  didn’t want to take any more of those pills, the effects of the pills were worse than the actual Crohn’s both mentally and physically.

I also had classmates at Journalism school chastise me for wanting to write about medical marijuana, like it was some funny joke. I stopped telling people about it unless they were already “in the know.”

My first “pot doctor” put me at ease immediately. He started telling me how I should use it for my Crohn’s Disease, how it would help me stop the pills and actually feel better. He made me feel normal, comfortable. I got to ask him all the questions my traditional doctors wouldn’t answer and he answered honestly. He said there needed to be more studies, but from what he was seeing with other people like me, marijuana was working. I asked my doctor at UCSF about it on the next visit, she briefly said she had heard encouraging things but she couldn’t recommend marijuana to me. Politics, you understand.

Over the years I researched holistic medicine and integrated that into my daily routine. I also smoked a lot of pot. I would be lying if I said I only smoked pot to ease the pain. Sometimes I smoke pot because I like it. Sometimes my brain is just as sick as my body and it feels good to do something to help myself instead of relying on everyone else.

“I would be lying if I said I only smoked pot to ease the pain. Sometimes I smoke pot because I like it, sometimes my brain is just as sick as my body and it feels good to do something to help myself instead of relying on everyone else.”

This March marked eight years since my surgery and this August will mark nine since my diagnosis. I show no signs of needing surgery again in the foreseeable future. My health is one hundred percent attributable to my decision to ignore everyone’s discouragement years ago and replace all those drugs with marijuana.

Besides the occasional Crohn’s complication (it is an autoimmune disease so I get all kinds of bizarre symptoms through germs I come in contact with, everything from the common cold to shingles and inflamed eyes), I am healthy and have been able to live an otherwise normal life because of my choice.

Like I said, this is a story I have never wanted to tell, but one I now think is important to share. People still go to jail for marijuana. All across the country military-style SWAT raids are conducted on peaceful people because of marijuana. I bet at your dinner table with your “straight” friends and family you still won’t talk about it because they don’t want to hear it or you are afraid of getting busted. Weed isn’t just hippies, nag champa and reggae music. It’s how people like me—your friend, a person you may have met casually, your family, your coworker, your teenage daughter buying pot from a drug dealer—get through life, which is after all, what we are all really trying to do, right?

Landon and Laney Brown Belts 030

Laney the Crohn’s Warrior: Part 2. Please also SIGN the PETITION for Laney and for all chronically ill Kansans! Please, this Father begs you…written by Emery Myers

Laney TaeKwonDo Champion Second Chrons Warrior First
Crohn’s Disease Warrior First!!!         Laney is a Brown-Belt Taekwondo champion second!
Part 2 of Laney’s life and Crohn’s Disease. The story of a true champion. The story of Laney! Laney, the Crohn’s Warrior.
Warrior I Will Stay Strong I Will Fight I Will Win
Laney is presently bleeding inside. She bleeds through damaged areas in her large intestine. She is not in remission now, even though she takes Azothiaprine, 100miligrams per day. She is fighting… fighting pain, fatigue, nausea, depression, anxiety, herself…at 7 years old! No 7-year-old should have to be subjected to this but Laney doesn’t think this way. She is positive and optimistic on the outside but I know she is terrified on the inside! She is just TOO TOUGH to let anyone smell the fear, the pain, deep inside her tiny, damaged tummy.
Azothiaprine DESTROYS Laney’s immune system. Why, you may ask does she take the drug then? It is the lesser of 2 evils at this time. Azothiaprine puts her immune system in a “head-lock”, if you will, preventing her tummy from being attacked, in specific, her gastrointestinal system.
The problem is, it is a very TOXIC chemical, continually damaging  her small master organ, her liver! Presently, Laney has lab drawn weekly to make sure her liver is tolerating the DRUG…the FDA approved Killer Drug. If this drug continues to cause problems, then Laney will be faced with intravenous chemotherapy, which increases her chances of various cancers to 11%! She is only 7…
Crohn’s is the WORST auto-immune disease affecting the entire GI tract from the mouth to the anus. Crohn’s Disease causes many severe problems in the GI tract and can attack anywhere along the GI tract.
FOR more Crohn’s Information click HERE.
Despite Laney losing 3 pounds in the last two weeks, which took her 6 months to gain, she recently earned her Brown Belt in Traditional #TaeKwonDo
This is one “Belt” below Black Belt!
She tested in front of the Grand Master, Sun-Yi and performed as if she were a “healthy” 7-year-old…but she is not. Her large intestine, swollen, oozing mucus and scarlet-red, life-giving blood, her large intestine was causing her SEVERE pain. Severe pain, hidden, while she methodically and gracefully worked through her perfected TaeKwonDo forms, alongside her big brother, Landon!
Landon and Laney Brown Belts
Landon snaps a quick punch in the background, while Laney strikes the enemy in the foreground! Landon and Laney are “thick as thieves” they are! Landon is the same rank in TaeKwonDo as the mighty, little Laney. The difference is Landon is a couple of years older than Laney and he is a very healthy boy!
Laney completely hid the pain during Taekwondo Testing. The constant aching and stabbing sensations in the lower abdomen was a perpetual reminder she can’t ever escape from Crohn’s Disease.
The bloated belly feels full and urgent, constantly, but you wouldn’t know if you looked at Laney performing her “Forms” perfectly. Sparring like she has the spirit of a Lioness in her…I think she does!
"Spirit of a Lioness" by Simbamarasa, reminds me of Laney's inner spirit...Laney is a Lioness! Brave, Powerful, Intelligent and a FIGHTER...A WARRIOR!
“Spirit of a Lioness” by Simbamarasa, reminds me of Laney’s inner spirit…Laney is a  Young Lioness! Brave, Powerful, Intelligent and a FIGHTER…A WARRIOR!
Laney is NOT responding well, at all, to the drug Azothiaprine. She has elevations in her liver enzymes, 5 times the normal level, which indicates moderate to severe liver damage. She was reduced on her Azothiaprine dosage, and 1 month later, her Crohn’s is out of remission…BACK with a vengeance, attacking our perfect, kind, beautiful, and intelligent       “Laney-Bug”!
Laney and her big-brother Landon, holding their Brown Belt Certifications. She smiles and on the inside, she is screaming!
Laney and her big-brother Landon, holding their Brown Belt Certifications. She smiles and on the inside, she is screaming! Nobody understands her pain and fatigue truly, but her. She hides this gargantuan part of her life, to protect her family, her mother and father, from the worry!

I am Laney’s father. I am also a Registered Nurse, with years of higher education. Proudly, I am also a father of 4 total kids, and a grandfather of 1, beautiful, baby girl!
I suffer from insulin dependent diabetes and diabetic neuropathy in my feet, fingers, and legs mostly. Pain medication prescribed by my doc, does not work and has awful side effects. It is the only choice I have living in Kansas. I am a law abiding citizen. I don’t break the law! So, I have to continue using the BIG Pharmacy medications, endorsed by our far right wing republicans in Kansas!
Kansas is ultra-conservative. So conservative that the state is voting on bills that would legalize discrimination against the LGBT community and… Kansas is voting on a bill to SPANK kids in school until their bottoms are red right now!
Kansas has put the Cannabis Compassion and Care Act in the trash can for the past several years. The chronically ill HAVE to and Need to get this bill passed NOW! HB2198 and SB9!
Kansas has put the Cannabis Compassion and Care Act in the trash can for the past several years. The chronically ill HAVE to, and Need to, get this bill passed NOW! HB2198 and SB9! The above picture gives the potential medical marijuana patients, little hope for a more empathetic and intelligent, dare I say, scientific, Kansas House and Kansas Senate. The Kansas Government is led by Christian Extremest, Governor Sam Brownback!
The bill, HB 2198 and SB9, were introduced several years ago, the bill is the Cannabis Compassion and Care Act. If passed, patients such as Laney, could have LEGAL ACCESS to specific strains of medical marijuana.
The strains have very little THC, the psychoactive component, but high amounts of cannabinoids or CBDs. The CBDs are responsible for halting Crohn’s disease and inducing remission… complete remission!
Dr. Sanjay Gupta Explains best in this incredible documentary on the benefits, the miracle of natural plant therapy…Marijuana! The good Doctor explains why he reversed his opinion on Medical Marijuana!

Please help. Please stand up and fight with this Kansas Dad! This disabled Marine Veteran of Desert Storm, This Kansas father and grandfather… Please, for all of us. This isn’t about you and I…it’s about them…the silent majority that either can’t speak out, or are too afraid.
The disabled, the care givers, the military, anyone that could benefit from treatment, treatment with marijuana! 20 other states have enacted medical marijuana laws and 2 states have legalized it completely!
Kansas Government either won’t give Kansans freedom and choice, or will just keep doing the status-quo,                                 the “same-ol-same-ol-good-ol-boy-” political routine, which the Kansas House and Senate have practiced for the last 40 years, since President Nixon!!!
I am NOT a CROOK! Richard Nixon famous last words!
I am NOT a CROOK! Richard Nixon famous last words!

Please sign this petition. Don’t do it for you…Sign it for those Kansans that need the choice to use a safe, effective plant instead of deadly narcotics, pushed by Big Pharmacy and the FDA!

Click HERE to sign the petition and FORCE the terribly antiquated and hyper-conservative government to read this BILL HB2198 and SB9! The voiceless need your help and compassion. Even if you don’t agree, share this so everyone can have a choice, for themselves, for Laney, for FREEDOM!

MEDICAL MARIJUANA: Peer-reviewed, scientific approach to a HIGHLY POLITICAL ISSUE.

Medical Marijuana is a popular subject in today’s medical and political world. It is hotly debated in most states. Several states have completely legalized Marijuana for recreational and medical use. These states, Colorado and Washington, have already seen millions of tax dollars from the sale of this plant. The states are planning to use the new revenue to improve public schools and for educational programs, such as drug education. The states have many other uses planned with the new revenue stream. Many Americans use marijuana regardless of the law and end up costing the states many millions of dollars for incarceration. Incarceration for petty, non-violent “drug” offenders.

The United States has classified Marijuana in the same category as man-made drugs such as LSD, MDMA and Heroin. If it is so dangerous, where are all the stories of over-dose? The war on Marijuana started in the early 1930′s, but during Impeached President Nixon’s term, he started the War on Drugs, which has turned out to be a War on the Poor and a War on Minorities.

In Kansas and Oklahoma, the laws against marijuana are completely draconian. People can face decades in prison and millions in fines for using Cannabis and/or growing Cannabis!

The War on Drugs is a War on the Poor and on Black people in the U.S.
The War on Drugs is a War on the Poor and on Black people in the U.S.

Big pharmaceutical companies know the benefits but haven’t figured out how to make money off of a plant that can be grown in your back yard.  U.S. Patent # 201130059018 proves that pharmaceutical giants know the efficacy of this plant. Big pharmacy has developed several medications that resemble THC, but they are synthetic and do cause more side effects than the natural plant.

CANNABIS CURES CANCER and Big Pharma Has the Patent to Prove it!

States that have a more bipartisan government seem to be more concerned about the health and welfare of their chronically ill population. These states have already enacted law for Medical Marijuana. Research indicates that the Southern States, the majority of which, are definitely DARK RED REPUBLICAN, interject religion and personal views in government instead of listening to the constituents. This disservice to the  chronically ill patients keeps them from safely accessing a medicine that has been used for thousands of years effectively, with no deaths EVER reported from this plant. In cases where death occurred, the people  were medicating themselves with many other drugs and alcohol as well. Mixing all of these different types of drugs can be deadly.

Cannabis is literally one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man. It is a Schedule I drug, which puts it in the same category as Heroin, LSD, GHB, Ecstasy, MDMA, Mescaline and Psilocybin (mushroom). Schedule 1 drugs are said to have no medical use. So why have almost half the states passed law that makes it legal for medical patients? Because it does have medical uses and I will prove that.

The Cannabis plant is not manufactured. The plant is naturally grown, harvested, dried and then, ready to go. The oils can be separated and used for pain relief, inflammatory bowel diseases, Crohn’s Disease, neuropathy associated with many diseases such as Diabetes and MS. PTSD, anxiety, depression and pain. It’s efficacy and safety far outweigh its risks and side effects.

There are many more hospital emergency visits for perfectly legal, over-the-counter (OTC) medications. Data compiled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has linked as many as 980 deaths in a year to drugs containing acetaminophen. The death toll for marijuana in a recent study… ZERO deaths!

This table represents the number of "legal" drug deaths versus "illegal" drug deaths in the America. Notice how many cannabis has? ZERO. Tylenol kills 1000 people per year in the U.S.A. and is not scheduled but Marijuana, even though much more effective and safer, is in the highest classification as a dangerous drug with NO accepted medical use by the government.

Marijuana or Cannabis, is last on the list related to deaths, with a BIG Death Toll of… wait for it… ZERO! This is because there are NO deaths directly related to using marijuana. Deaths from prescription drugs in America in one year… 38,000 deaths! These deaths are from FDA approved, doctor prescribed, medications.

There are phony stories floating around the internet, which indicate Colorado is having problems with Marijuana but these stories are all fictional. Colorado has reported no increased incidents involving Marijuana. Conservatives in these states are pushing against the new laws but the states are allowing their residents freedom to decide for themselves!

Now, there are people who use marijuana with other more dangerous drugs, like alcohol and cigarettes, that die from drug/alcohol use, but if one uses Marijuana responsibly to treat medical issues, the risk is almost 0%, unlike many prescription medications. Antibiotics kill more people every year. Aspirin kills more people every year. With any medicine, responsible use is paramount and one should always consult with their doctor before starting or stopping a prescribed medicine.

The science is tangible and real. The studies have been repeated and the same conclusions are made: Medical Marijuana’s benefits far out-weigh its associated risks. It’s time to set the weed free and let people make up their own minds. The War on Drugs has been a miserable failure and full of inaccurate information. This “war” has been waged against the poor and ethnically diverse populations of the United States. The War on Drugs has taken a huge toll on Americans and continues to do so.  America imprisons more people than any other country. It is a BIG industry in America and getting bigger. America has a privatized prison system. Stocks are traded, bought and sold based on Americans being imprisoned. Something about this whole system is so Anti-American. It’s time to stand up and take back our freedom!

“There is very little evidence that smoking marijuana as a means of taking it represents a significant health risk. Although cannabis has been smoked widely in Western countries for more than four decades, there have been NO reported cases of lung cancer or emphysema attributed to marijuana. I suspect that a day’s breathing in any city with poor air quality poses more of a threat than inhaling a day’s dose — which for many ailments is just a portion of a joint — of marijuana.”                                ~ Lester Grinspoon, MD ~                                                                            Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry

Beautiful Butterfly for now...

The Ecological State of Butterflies in High Definition! HD Life!

A Monarch floating on a natural canvas.
Oval Blues:Perfect Hues of Blues…Shades completely  impossible to recreate by  man! Just as the Monarch that floats on the Unique, Hues of Oval  Blues!

Beauty is everywhere and nowhere, depending if our eyes are closed to the world, or wide-open, focused on our Planet! Our eyes are evolving to see only LCD screens! Real HD is simply, observing nature with your own two specially evolved eye balls!

Most of us walk around, blind to the specks of brilliance, all over our little worlds. Fluorescent lighting and computer screens have desensitized our visual acuity! We take for granted, which evolution and survival gave us… The most beautiful organs, the windows to the human psyche, the perfect, stunning human eyes! We think our natural world will always be there…BUT…at present, climate change and deforestation of the South American Rain-forests threaten many species and have already eradicated many other species!

Glasswing Butterfly image from google images
The increasingly endangered Glasswing Butterfly. Soon this beautiful insect will be gone…for good, due to changing climates and deforestation coupled with increasing green house gasses.

Just because we can’t see South America and the Amazon from here, doesn’t mean we aren’t responsible. Sarah Palin may be able to see Russia from her house, but we can’t see the destruction and damage we are causing, to the whole planet, with our wasteful, ignorant, antiquated ways of manufacturing practices and our disregard for what top scientists have proven! How many more species will become extinct before we do? Science offers hope, if we start embracing science instead of war and religion. Religion and war do not mix with science and human advancement. We have recorded evidence of history repeating itself. Its time we listened to science and the experienced people in these scientific fields or we are going to lose more butterflies! Maybe after we lose US!

Beautiful Butterfly Perched on a Hemp Plant. image from Google images

Here in America, we continue to eradicate nature, such as the Hemp plant this beautiful butterfly is perched on. Industrial Hemp has been legalized recently by our Federal Government but it still remains taboo to many people here in the U.S.A., which is traditionally, behind most other countries, even some third-world-countries! We can’t take care of our own, how are we going to preserve nature at its finest and most delicate?

Natures very definition is “the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the earth, as opposed to humans or human creations.” ~Websters Dictionary~.

To me, this definition infers that nature does NOT need us but we DO NEED NATURE! I mean, really how much science do we need to prove this titanium fact? Do human-beings really need to see the outcome of the current trauma? Humans are raping the planet! I don’t need an evolutionary biologist like Richard Dawkins to explain this simple concept…none of us do, except for the far right-wing republicans AKA the “tea-party”. This party does not believe in “climate change” or “global warming”. That’s going to make our next butterfly extinct!

The Monarch Butterflies in Mexico During Migration image from google images
The Monarch Butterflies in Mexico During Migration. image from google images

“The report is based on a survey of Mexico‘s Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve done in December 2013. The butterflies, which spend the winter hibernating in the reserve’s forest, occupied only 1.65 acres (0.6 hectare) in December 2013—a 44 percent drop from 2012, when theinsects covered 2.76 acres (1.12 hectares) of land. The survey was conducted by the WWF-Telcel Alliance and Mexico’s National Commission for Protected Areas.” ~National Geographic~

These magnificent creatures are slowly disappearing…some not so slow. Scientific data already is proving that Monarch Migration is down 44%! Scientists report climate change is the main change but all of the pesticides, deforestation and greenhouse gasses are also dooming the Monarchs to extinction. Can you imagine a life without the Monarchs? I can’t. I’m a simple country boy, Monarchs always comforted me and I could count on the friendly little sprites to bring me luck and good fortune every year. I have noticed fewer and fewer every year! I had more hummingbirds this year than Monarchs in my garden!

Huge Butterfly in Malaysia image from google images
Huge Butterfly in Malaysia image from google images

How can we let this priceless, beautiful, biological artwork become extinct? We wouldn’t let our Constitution be destroyed. We wouldn’t let our Declaration of Independence bed destroyed. Why are we letting an evolutionary, biological piece of art like this rare butterfly, become extinct? I think it has to do with a hue…a hue of Green! Evil always has a good foundation in money! That’s how humans will become extinct someday too at the present rate we are going. Humans are too greedy and ignorant to evolve at this trajectory. Humans are doomed at the current destructive rate they are traveling at!

Beauty is fleeting, we all know this. Natural Beauty like this can be preserved though, with a complete change in our habits and our consumption. Humans have all become “Consumers” in the civilized countries of the world. I say “civilized” but are we really? America itself, is a huge consumer of war and military people and equipment. It is what Eisenhower warned of “the military machine” that is the U.S. President Eisenhower was right again!

Money! Rich get Richer and the Poor, well you know… It’s the green, the greed, that are destroying our ecological balance! It is the usual politics and rich versus the poor.

Butterfly Red image from google images
Butterfly Red by ~unknown artist~  doesn’t exactly mean “butterfly” in an insect-kind-of-way…but it is still natural beauty, for the most part! courtesy GoogleImages.

This visual explosion of RED screams color! Eyeballs bulge and ears ring when processing this image! It is Bizarre and beautiful! Just like human-beings!

Angry yet graceful imagery. Slightly sensual but organic…natural and innocent in nature with a side of naughty! Butterfly Red!
